Famous 'Sleeper House' On Hilltop For Sale
Sculptured House Comes With Curved Furniture
POSTED:7:49 p.m. MDT October 6, 2002
GENESEE, Colo. -- It's a house every Coloradan has seen from afar but now you can own it -- for a heavy price.
It has been called the perfect party place -- a habitable sculpture.
Its ultra modern shape, sitting on top of a hill in Genesee, was made famous by the 1973 Woody Allen movie "Sleeper," but the new interior is what'll really catch your eye this time.
"This is a significant piece of modern architecture," said Rollie Jordan of the real estate company Kentwood Company.
Architect Charles Deaton designed and built the home in 1963 but it sat empty for years. The new owner not only finished it but added 5,000 square feet of space designed by Deaton's daughter and son-in-law.
"He'd be very proud of the way it came out," said Jordan.
The original structure has five stories and was all about the curves. That tradition continues even with the new additions.
"It's called curve-a-linear -- there are no straight walls. It's actually 7,600 ... we call it round feet, not square feet," Jordan said.
And all 7,600 round feet are for sale.
"We're selling the house for $10 million and it's being sold furnished," Jordan said.
Everything from the bed linens to the 60s furniture to the mod accents comes with the four-bedroom pad. But only serious buyers need inquire.
"We would make arrangements to pick them up by limo and cater dinner and let them spend the night because that's the way you're going to appreciate this house," Jordan said.
So now a house that's always been prized from the outside has an interior to match.
The current owner doesn't live there, but told 7NEWS he wants to sell the landmark because he's ready for a new challenge.
The house now measures up to 7,700 square feet and includes five bedrooms and five baths.
More about the house here.

Another Building to be seen in Sleeper is the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Mesa Laboratory building in
1850 Table Mesa Dr.
Boulder, CO 80305
Built in the early 1960’s, the Mesa Laboratory was designed by well-known architect I.M. Pei. The building includes research facilities, common areas, and courtyards that blend with, and open onto, the magnificent environmental setting.
Although the arrangement of pieces within the complex appears random, it is actually careful planned. Pei organized the offices and laboratories within two tall towers to make sure researchers could have time alone, yet the maze-like atmosphere of the building encourages casual meetings in the halls and common areas, which Walter Roberts, NCAR’s founding director, believed were an important part of scientific research and deliberation.
The Mesa Laboratory is a collection of abstract, geometric unfinished concrete forms that look a bit like the surrounding western landscape. The unfinished dark reddish-brown concrete walls are similar in color to the rocks of the “Flatiron” outcrops towering to the west side of the Laboratory. To match the color of the rocks, and make the building look like a part of the landscape, sand, ground from a nearby quarry, was added to the concrete. Pei’s inspiration for the Mesa Lab design came from the geometric forms of Anasazi cliff dwellings found in the cliffs of the Mesa Verde area of southwest Colorado.

Another building you can see in the trailer is the 'Radsporthalle (Velodrom)' (1995 -96) by Dominique Perrault at the 'Landsberger Allee' in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg. The rectangular building next to it on the right is the 'Schwimmsporthalle' also by Perrault one year later.
Some very wicked gras around it in the movie.

Another building is the 'Tierheim Berlin' (2000-2001) at the Hausvaterweg 39
13057 Berlin - Falkenberg (Hohenschönhausen-Lichtenberg) by Dietrich Bangert who used to run an office with Axel Schultes (Crematorium).

It looks as if a lot of the architecture in the film is the 'Tierschutzheim' (engl. animal shelter).

When I visited New York I questioned some people but no one knew.
This is the best picture I could find.
