Interesting project.
I also thought of another project by Behnisch and Partners for housing in Hamburg that they won in competition in 2006. I really liked the drawings and so saved a pdf from their website. I'm not suggesting any derivation - in many ways it is completely different. |

great project, really fantastic
![]() i like it how you use a simple language in architecture to create a great effect,,great how you form the building with balconies into organic shape..what is the relation of the two vertical forms(how its fit in the context), and are they both used for rooms or is there any differents?? looking the material you use white colour in the interior and exterior for balconies and inside on the wall for the organic shape is it concrete or? regards |

Hello spadestick!
Thanks for posting this impressive project. But I don't agree totally with the PPB guys above; While I must recognize the prowess behind the modelling, I'm not too fond of the renderings though, mostly because they tend to underline a cheap design (cheap in the sense of poor instead of not expensive) and to convince yourselves that the trendy post-hadid arch style is enough to give added value to a car park. This is a cosmetic effect (which your renders confirm with the abundant use of cool-warm and glow filters), to hide the fact that the design is actually not very clever (for the moment). ![]() Perhaps this is sufficient to impress some teachers at school (and students to some extent) but if you have to really build this stuff, you have to be sure that your design will still remain pertinent after 10 years. This kind of design is indeed "wow" inspiring on the paper (and glossy renders) and is more and more seen in international arch competitions, but once built, tend to become rapidly clichéed. However, if your intent was to become famous with "wow" architecture, then why not jump into movie industry? ![]() I apologize for my boring comments but 1. don't reduce architecture to some patterns and schemes and voila 2. don't cheat with beautiful renders (and faked natural lighting) 3. think about the cost of each unrational line you draw (crisis or not) 4. please accept my critics (it took some of my precious time to write this) and don't take it bad ![]() I'm glad that the Pritzker 2009 was given to a so stubborn and low-profile guy like Peter Zumthor... proof that one is not forced to follow the trendsetters.

Thanks for the feedback Ryo! much appreciated. Totally respect your critique. I agree it needs more work on it - hence I've put it up for critique, the design is ongoing and definitely not in a finished state. Finally something worth to discuss!
In response to some previous comments regarding no local people : Dar Es Salaam is a fairly cosmopolitan urbanscape with a decent amount of different nationalities passing through. The development itself is owned by a non-local. But I think I'll take into consideration was was mentioned the next time. I do not want to relegate locals to service roles either. As for your comments: 1. Agreed, but honestly was thinking about bone structures and how it could be integrated into the design. Voronoi patterns are close to bone structures, and we have discovered a form of foam moulding that is coated with a tough polymer that can achieve these forms in a lightweight fashion and all this economically, will post a sample once I get a photo of it. 2. The rendering is for the clients. This works for clients especially in this industry, i was hard pressed to display just the Sketchup model, but in the end decided not to because we spent so much time tweaking the renderings. 3. Absolutely... will do so the next time. Last edited by spadestick; 26-04-2009 at 16:35.. |
