Calatrava vs Isozaki

click on image to link to thread

Calatrava has sued the Bilbao municipality for connecting a ramp designed by Isozaki to a bridge designed by him. He claims his designer rights have been affected because his "work of art" was mutilated by the connection of the new ramp that leads to a new Isozaki building.
This is generating an interesting debate on the "ownership" of an architect's design, and how can they be affected or not by other colleagues or the users.

Umm, whatever. A star architect pitting against another. Actually, if I were a star architect, I wouldn't mind another good architect doing connecting work alongside, it would be all for the cause of good architecture for the masses. Any "in" fighting amongst architects is seen as childish.

However for this instance, Isozaki - I never liked most of his work.

I think this is very interesting. I can easily imagine how amednemnts to the bridge might have pissed off Calatrava... Be good to know more. Are there any better images of what changes haves been made to the bridge?

from Wikipedia:
"In 2007, Calatrava sued Bilbao for allowing Arata Isozaki to remove a bar from the bridge to connect it to the Isozaki Towers".

I am almighty.
The image primo found was the most explaining one. This should be in news section and should be discussed... will move it to the top page later.

Here a link to the news, albeit in spanish http://arqtipo.com/?p=215

Isozaki says:

"I had the oportunity to sue hin in barcelona 1992 when his Comunications tower afected my design of the Palau San Jordi...
many people encouraged me to sue him but I denied, I am very respectfull of others work."

Calatravas office:
"This happens nowere else (sic!) there is a law of intelectual property in this country, eliminating the handraill afected the design, and was done with ignorance, stupidity and prepotence"
