                  • In college anytime someone showed a spiral stair one of the old tutors would say "Can't get a coffin down it " .. applies to furniture as well of course but he never thought of that

                        • Well..here is another stair related contribution.
Today I had a concrete stair removed through a roof with a beam spacing of 90cm. Quite a nice operation.
                          Now heres the video.

I thought I had seen a lot of stairs in 20 years as a stair designer and manufacturer. Looking at all these photo's have humbled myself. My question is: Is there any designs out there for a floating straight or circular stair where the wood treads are supported by the wood handrail and spindles.

                              Mike
That would be an interesting concept, and I think quite feasible if you were to consider the handrail system to become a truss either in the helix or straight form. The difficulty might be using materials that give this element strength in a size that would be proportionally and visibly pleasing.

Made me think of a rope bridge type of application. While doing a quick search I found this. Not the answer, but an interesting set of stairs.
