New here so hi! Also not a pro by any means, so go gentle.

Bought a lovely site in the Surrey countryside because of the "potential" with a pretty awful bungalow on it, I think originally prefab holiday cottage. Initial thoughts of using the original carcase on building around it rather damped by it turning out to be of single skin breeze block and foundations only 2 courses. I've spent about £1500 on heating oil in 6 months :-( Anyway the good bits are a nice location, and a reasonable initial floor area of 192 sq m, so hopefully reasonably easy to uplift. In the initial planning rejection the unofficial "nod" was just bulldozer it.

Project - Self build
Location - Surrey Hills UK
Type of Project - Residential
Design Parameters - Light airy, open plan (ish), bedrooms mostly upstairs (wife pref), energy efficient to run, personal budget limitations (would love great quality on a shoestring ofc), area of outstanding natural beauty, sensitive neighbours (to overlooking) and parish council (generally opposed to any change to anything by instinct). Sloping site with neighbour to west up about 3 meters and similar east neighbour down the hill a similar amount.

Design Approach - This is where the amateur may show. Its not a huge site about 1/4 acre but its a lovely mature garden and pretty rural setting by UK standards. The idea was largely to avoid overlooking to the sides by limiting windows and sight lines, get some useful solar gain off the s face, have a Z form so that despite the face of the building being N facing there would be 2 separate protected areas to sit in sun through the day, and go for a structurally simple form which could be readily (economically) buildable in whatever is most economical. Trying to follow the general contour of the hill so as to pacify neighbours (its going to go *much* better with the planners with neighbour approval I think).

Things we'd like in the mix, ability to open up into the garden, stone floor downstairs with underfloor heating, probably air source heat pump (we are off gas mains so currently kerosene), low bills ? heat reclamation but not sure about the "sealed house", a TV/media room away from the main area where we can push the kids for some peace, largish rooms (by uk standards), oh did I mention cheap to build :-)

So after more than a few hours with Sketchup here is what I've got to so far.

I initially wanted exposed glulam beams but due to pricing of timber frame and some of the spans I am currently thinking light steel frame. Hoping to go for zinc standing seam roof.

Anyway, would appreciate some "pro" feedback/criticism its all good.

Actually, it was done by myself two months ago, and I've started drawing another one now. As I found I can draw, I was being more interested in it.
For the reason I am studying in the second semester of Civil Engineering in a Canada college, I am getting more interesting from architecture, and I have gotten a plan to be a architect. after that, I learned a lot by myself from some websites. SO, I am here. I am international student came from China, my English is not that good.so, whatever, I post my drawing showing you guys, and hopefully, can get some suggestion from you guys on my drawing or whatever, better that some suggestion about how to be a architect connecting with my situation. I will be appreciated.

10 rue de la Porte de Buc
78000 Versailles

RER C from Gare D'Austerlitz to Versailles Chantiers
Turn right from trainstation , keep turning right 3 times more.
http://www.ratp.fr/

The chapel is part of a small protestant womens community, hidden from street view.
Wander in humbly at a reasonable church hour.

Background story -
Deaconesses from the world over used to meet up every year in a little old church and pray for unity of the faithful. When the gathering became too big for the church, a canvas tent was formed outside, but a gail destroyed it so they hired a Rolinet to build something a little more permanent, that maintained the feeling of tent. http://www.specifier.com.au/projects...c-Rolinet.html

The chapel is a glass wedge emerging from a hill, with views of the Versailles to one side.
Movement inside and around this building was pleasantly unobstructed, the atmosphere friendly and unassuming in best protestant tradition.

*The nearby Versailles gardens are an added bonus. (ps don't fall for the enticing 'dancing fountains' ads - they are simply turned on)
Things like screen sizes, aisle width, number of rows, width of rows, location of projection room etc is not shared! Or they have really hidden everything.

I got some info on aspect ratios, like 1:1.85, but that's not helpful if I don't know the width to start with.

Does anyone know any standards from which I can have as a starting base? If there is an Australian Standards for cinema design, what's the code because I can't find anything

Most people have been amazed with Lumion and its rapid development. However, they're equally rapid in changing the rules of the game.

December 2010: Lumion 1 was launched. Even with all its bugs, we early adopters supported the budding software. In early spring, we were told great new features would be coming. However...

June 2011: A new "Lumion Ultimate" license was launched with the features of version 1.2 and all "Lumion" licenses became "Lumion Basic" and would have to pay again to have the new features. Lumion Ultimate buyers were told they would always have everything, initially with 5 modules or "plugins", and were told:
We finished 5 plugin packs now and the other 4 or 5 will be introduced later. The ultimate edition will always get the plugin packs for free. So with time the Ultimate edition will become much more attractive.

They also said among the extra plugins coming for free to them would include Advanced Animation and a new library of models for Interior scenes. See this thread.
Lumion users suddenly became an angry mob about this slightly unexpected change, but eventually calmed down and coughed up the money... Or just kept a limited version. Reactions of SCF members back in June 2011 can be read here...
http://forums.sketchucation.com/view...=37871&start=0
and here:
http://forums.sketchucation.com/view...333651#p333651

December 2011: The library of interior models and the new advanced animation feature are released... With "Lumion 2 Ultimate" license. That means paying again. The Lumion 1 Ultimate didn't "become more attractive" and didn't "get the plugin packs for free". They just changed the version number and thus forced "Ultimate" users to upgrade to get the new stuff, including stuff they were told they would be getting for free. (The interior models and advanced animation).

May 2012: The Lumion team said they would soon be releasing new juicy features... But in order to not give this new features for free to Lumion 2 Ultimate users, as they were supposed to, they will eliminate the plugin system for the Ultimate license, eliminate the Basic license, and introduce a new "top" version that will have these features. Owners of the basic license are being offered a huge discount to upgrade to "Ultimate", and owners of "Ultimate" will be offered a discount to upgrade to the new, yet unnamed license. See this thread.

So, what do you think? Any of the software you use has a similar history?

Hi Guys, this is a personal project that if it turns out ok then i will submit to local government in the hope that the designs will be used.
there is no current shelter at the station, except for the main station. increasing tourism to the area sees more people using the station and therefore extra shelter is required.
the shelter must be used for sun protection and also rain protection in the rainy season.

weather is tropical, With a short but fierce rainy season.
the last attached pic is where the shelters will be located.

this wil be a project over time, but i would like some input first over train station regulations, especially, shelters.
im looking particularly at distance from edge of platform, size, seating regs, etc.

from there i will design the shelters accordingly.

hope to get some feed back, many thanks.

For my last tafe project, it's a rather large redevelopment of pre-used railway land. The overall development site is approx 9.2ha, however my certain block is around 5,000m2. It's all un-used land, with the only existing buildings is old railway station and goods shed, to be retained.

My question is, how do I determine the property address/number? My site has 3 seperate parcels (shown on the land.vic website), however the lots would also run onto other sites, roads, public parks.

Would council somewhat combine all the lots in the entire development, map out the roads and public space, then subdivide the land according and give new lot numbers?

This also will be handy to know since I want to come up with a marketing name for the development, and want to incorporate the number of the site, however it's unknown. So if anyone knows the process, it would be great. Spent better part of the morning googling but couldn't find anything.
