This was an entry into a competition I prepared a bit earlier this year…found out, just a few minutes ago, that I didn't make it. Oh well…I won last year, so it was perhaps too much to expect to do the same again. (Funny, I keep hearing a certain LCD Soundsystem song in my head.) Anyway, no reason not to post this business now and move on, places to go, people to see, crazed stuff to design.

It was a challenging project that I developed over a couple of years ...

This was my first Kahn building to see in person. Like I said previously there were a few things that were a bit dated, but overall, in the architecture, the place had such a strong presence. It seemed permanent and timeless. the articulation of materials and structure were so clear and the building was really all about this in its raw expression. ...

    Hello PPB members and guests.

I wanted to address something I see as a problem on the forum. I have seen it a bit lately, but most recently in this thread. This may be an example of me acting to hastily as well.

We are constantly hit up by students to do their home work for them, or vague questions, or incomplete thoughts. I would ask the members here to be a little more patient with these sorts of things from new posters. We need to give the thread a chance to develop before jumping all over a poster. We need to foster a welcoming environment because ultimately PPB is its members and we don't know who may be the next great contributor to a great forum.

It is somewhat intimidating for some one to post for the first time, so lets give the thread a chance. ...

Thanks AndrewB for the thread. I only knew about Gropius House as a possible travel destination because of this thread.

I have emailed ahead and told them about this thread and the lack of interior photos for this Architectural Travel forum. They were very accommodating.

The house is practically a museum of Gropius's family life at the house as they just left everything to the houses trust.

I have to say this was a pleasant surprise. I haven't been a huge fan of the large scale Gropius buildings I have seen but to see a small scale building that's been 'lived in' by Gropius himself, that's quite amazing and I loved the spaces. ...

    Citation from the Jury
For more than 15 years, architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa have worked together in their collaborative partnership, SANAA, where it is virtually impossible to untangle which individual is responsible for what aspect of a particular project. Each building is ultimately a work that comes from the union of their two minds. Together they have produced major commissions, such as ...

As the economy has displaced a lot of designers I see a lot of people moving on to new workplaces and even starting their own business. The intent of this post is to capture the office policies you liked best from the places you worked so that as others begin to set up new practices or go to new offices can think about office policies and how they will affect the office culture. In reality office management is not taught but a set of skills you learn on the job. ...

I got to see this Frank L. Wright synagogue with Kevin and Sanna as part of their trip to the states. We hit the synagogue before having to leave town on our way south to DC. We drove to it via my Mazda 3 but a train station (the metro) brings you just south of the synagogue at the Elkins Park station. From there it is about a quarter mile of a hike. ...
