View Full Version : V-ray Sketchup Lighting problems!
hi to all pushpullers!
i'm a small time renderer from a small office in Switzerland, greetings from Basel town!
i'm new to posting threads though i have been a PP member since ppb 1 first started! (sorry swanke for not contributing)
i just started to learn Vray for sketchup. i'm finding it quite an easy and excellent tool for rendering. THOUGH i have one problem:
I cant seem to render light rectangles or emissive materials: they all render black. i've tried many different settings that i' found from the web, toggling with all options. even the most simple scenes with one light rectangle or emissive material renders black.
if anyone could tell me what i 'm doing wrong or not doing i will be extremely grateful!
the hald rendered image attached shows the supposed lamps and light tubes all blacked out. The global illumination looks good though. cheers
welcome to posting on the forum finally charlie, i thought you would have changed your country flag to swiss by now.
sorry i know nothing about vray but i hope someone here would be able to help you on this.
how come the rest of the image is so blurry/grainy?
Like Kevin I can't offer any info on Vray but might suggest you firtly check your normals. looks very much like the emitter panels could be reversed!

yes, it's quite common people paint the wrong(back) face transparent in sketchup and think it's transparent when in fact it is still solid on the front face if you export to other rendering programs.
usually i would make sure by painting those surfaces with default colours again and when you find you can't apply it to a transparent material, you know you have painted transparent in the wrong face, reverse the face and paint again.
victorcn 22-05-2008, 07:55 it's the problem with vray physical camera. You can uncheck it in render setting but have to decrease vray sun intensity, or keep the render setting and increase the vray light intensity to about 100 or higher. Hope this will help.

thanks swanke .. yes i have been a puller rather than a pusher in the bar. this will change
the image is so grainy coz i had to leave work so i posted a half rendered image..

thanks for posting victorcn, really appreciate it. i think you might be right there.. i'll have to check and get back to you on this.
do you also apply the same method regarding the light settings?

thanks richard! i'm going to try all the suggestions and get back to you with a proper render. in the mean time i got another project to do! :craqueur::cheers:
hey vrayers with sketchup!
i am finding out that the emissive materials with physical camera only render if the light intensity is set to 9000!! (a little over 100 one might say!?)
thanks alot to those who responded
guaucorreo 29-07-2008, 09:07 nice work charlie
