New York City - World Trade Center Design News:
Trump: I'd have designed a better 'Freedom Tower'
Business icon and real estate mogul says the City of New York should have consulted him when officials were making plans to rebuild the World Trader Center because the "Freedom Tower" they're building now "is a disgrace."
"They should have come to me. I know what to do," the tycoon told Canada AM. "I would have rebuilt the World Trade Center as it was but one storey taller and a lot stronger. That's what should have been built.
"Now, they have buildings that look like hell going up. Well, they're not going up. I don't know if they ever will go up."
Trump says he was never a huge fan of the World Trader Center "until it came down." It now represents for him the spirit of America and he says the new building should reflect America's undaunted spirit.
"I'd like to see it rebuilt as it was, but stronger and a little bit taller. That's really saying 'We won.' What they're building now is a disgrace."
Trump has built office towers and condominiums all over the world; one of his latest projects is going up right now in Toronto: a 70-storey steel and glass hotel and condo project that is scheduled to open in 2009.
While The Donald says he "loves Toronto," his home has been Manhattan and always will be, he says.
"I develop in a lot of locations but New York has an energy that no other place in the world has," he says.
"I'm building some of the greatest buildings in the world now. That's what I like," he says.
As for how Trump hopes to be remembered, he says: "What I'd like is for people to think I was very aesthetic, (that) I really had a good sense of taste and style -- whether it's Trump Tower or any one of the many buildings."
Indeed, the headlines have focused as much on his architecture as on his hairdo.
"It is my hair, whether we love it or not," he says, putting the rumours to rest by revealing his hairline. "And I guess it works in its own way."
:bang head What a DORK! :puke:
