Hi all,

have recently installed Vray for rhino 4 and sketchup 6 (plugins) and am trying to find out two key things:

1) why is there not a material browser as such (only a material editor), to look through materials you may wish to use on your drives (i.e maxwell)??

2) I downloaded several Vray material libraries only to find, when I try to import them using the 'material editor' that the application is looking for '.vismat' files
which I dont have, although there are .mat files.

Obviously I am missing something here, (I hope)....
Looked at the menu for help on both aspects, but it does notcover material library browsing, or 'file specific' imports'.

Please help, I really want to use this quick and powerful tool in my work, but am increasingly frustrated by the lack of knowledge on the net or anywhere else....

Thanks

That may be because Vray for Rhino and Vray for Skecthup material file formats (.vismat) are not exactly compatible, let alone interchangeable, with the 3DS Max material library file format (.mat) material file format - which is presumably what you downloaded off the internet.

ASGVIS, the developers of the Vray4Rhino and Vray4Sketchup format have been asked about developing some kind of translator, but the obvious problem is that the .mat format is a propriety format of 3ds Max and (consequently Autodesk, by extension) and not of the Vray creators (Chaosgroup) with whom they actually have an agreement to make the bridges.

Your best option is to get familiar with the manual and material editor and learn to create your own collection of materials.
