Yes id also be interested in a sketchup 4d forum. Apparently the new version is twice as fast ? I think previously cinema4d was the industry standard . Maxon are making great moves especially with Maxon Form for archicad. Id like to see a similar organic plug in for sketchup.

I'm hoping to get back into Cinema4D as well. I've allways loved its speed and easy to use approach. I used to aply it in combination with Rhino modells. Haven't gotten to using it with skippies yet.

Valuable shared infos would be:
-Best export format from SU
-How to sort SU modell to make material assignment in C4D efficient
-How to avoid front/backface problems that others are complaining about in external renderers

I have been using C4D a little to render from sketchup at work, with OK results. IŽll share some pointers soon, when I have time.

HI guys.
I m starting to use su with c4d for renderings, this scene was done with a lightdome-there is a free plugin 51grEy which generates the lightdome to simulate the radiosity on your model..its nothing special yet but ill hope to improve...
you can make a light from any polygon object...the more poly u have the more lights it has....

here it is

and by the way-c4d for me is much more user friendly and not so complicated as max ...my opinion

dear all,
I agree that it would be fruitful to have a Maxon Cinema 4D forum.
and definitely the shared infos as Sigue2000 mentioned is very valuable for the forum.

I've just started to use c4d for a few days...newbie indeed! new experience for me.

My objective is to combine c4d's radiosity capability with Piranesi's expressive character. I haven't figured the best workflow for this.

(my true intention is to create renderings with similar style like Auralab's gallery... well I'm still far from it. That's why I need all the help from the gurus from the ppb-forum :not worth )

here is my first attempt with a very simple model,...

1st image: model and apply the materials in SU. exported to .3ds format as one single object (I think, this is not very good. But I haven't tried to tweak parameters on exporting process.)

2nd image: rendered in C4D. I set a glow parameter for the orange concrete material, put some 'dirt' on it, then rendered with standard radiosity setting, exported to .epx format.

3rd to 5th image: some effects I tried from piranesi. put some standard cutouts, apply blur filter, adjust brightness&contrast, etc.

hi, does any uses bodypainter in cinema 4d? beacause what i found in this review: http://www.3dyanimacion.com/Analisis/analisis.cfm?link=cinema (is in spanish) you can paint directly in the 3d model and the tool is very similar to photoshop but in 3d, i think is very interesting if one have use this tool to share is experience

...if you want to make some grass on the landscape (or on the roof of terrasse)
C4D has the better Plugin (http://www.maxon.net/pages/products/c4d/modules/hair/hair_e.html) of any prog at this day! :peace:
So easy and speedy rendering!
Take a look at the tour!

We have some relatively good results with the old GO version (very simple, no radiosity, limited output, around 180 euro). Enough to show their dreams to clients, anyway.
