hi
why dont we declare on a render contest?
we can put an interior image (or even an SKP model) and everyone will render it as he/she wants to.
define basic rules and than a vote for best render.
we can learn from each other about the renders techniques.
what do u say?

Well yeah! I'm putting my money on the Jaker however. Based on his comments he will have steeper odds, bigger winnings!

Nah. I'm not sandbagging. Ronen's got the sketchup to maxwell thing down cold. There are a lot of good rendering packages out there, but if you know your way around Maxwell then you're already way ahead of the game. Another thing in his favor, and I'm not saying this to stroke Ronen, is his artistic eye. Good composition, color, the whole deal.

But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The folks at the SketchUp forum tried to do this a year ago and it turned into a shoving match. Some people wanted to put restrictions on adding bump maps etc. They wanted to level the playing field. Some said-'Why the hell would you want to do that? Each renderer has it's strong points-use them.' 'It would be unfair', said the others. So a few were done but the idea never played out the way it should have.

I think it would be better, no so much as a contest, but as a way to see how each renderer interprets a scene. That would be interesting and a good reference for others.

I think it's a good idea. I was not around for the 'shoving match' that insued from the last round, but if there is a way to present this as a learning experience (which I think is what we do here anyway), and not a posturing opportunity, I'm in....and I suck!

So, let's post a skip file, gather around for a virtual group hug and all play nice. :peace:

That sounds good - if the renders could be posted with all relevant settings so somebody could recreate it on their own, then it could become a useful reference.

it doesnt have to be "the most realistic render", there are others parameters rather than "most realistic render". u can also render in piranesi and win because u manipulate with the water colors.
if its getting too complicated than we can try your suggestion and render the same scene and learn from each others

I agree with you fatnjazzy–100 percent. It doesn't have to be "the most realistic render". That's my main problem with a lot of the 3d stuff. Most are technically excellent and realistic, but without the artistic 'soul' that makes them exceptional.

I don't think it's getting too complicated. Pick a model, pick a renderer and have at it. My comments about Ronen were made out of respect for his abilities. His Meditation Center images they are not photorealistic, but they are excellent examples of what composition, color and design can do for you. It isn't the software choice as much as it is the artist.

Agree with you fully , let us go ahead with it . Render noobies like me would love to see all the maestros at work and get some critiques . Do you have a model/building in mind fatNjazzy ?
