View Full Version : Architecture Road Trip
lanerlee 25-04-2007, 22:43 60 students, 1 bus, South of France, March '07!!
This was a discovery trip, mainly a chance to experience the work of Le Corbusier first hand, since we went to so many places I thought it might make for an interesting read!! Forgive me if I make a mess, I don't usually start threads!!
Day 1: 13.03.07
Roquebrune Cap Martin
E1027
Eileen Gray
Not strictly Le Corbusier- but heavily influenced b is work!
View from the Mediterranean side.
lanerlee 25-04-2007, 22:46 The entrance.
The ship coming into dock!!
At the moment the buliding is a a bad state of disrepair, but refurbishment is underway.. . . there's the builders.
lanerlee 25-04-2007, 22:55 The master bedroom
I just wish I could get hold of the original shots in architecture viva!! All the details are still intact just degrading quickly.

Marseille
Unite d'Habitation
Le Corbusier
the now infamous facade. . .
lanerlee 25-04-2007, 23:19 . . . and of course the collossal pilotis. . . . what intention!!!!
I don't think any pictures, drawings or otherwise can really convey the immensity of these columns, literally dwarfing the surroundings.
lanerlee 25-04-2007, 23:24 One of the interior streets- this is one of the residential ones, note the grocery delivery boxes beside each door and the postboxes. The elevator core is to the right.
lanerlee 25-04-2007, 23:32 . . . . the hotel room. . . this was one of the cells, approx 1.8m wide. I think you can stay in these for about 60eur a night. . . it's well worth it!!
lanerlee 25-04-2007, 23:35 the cell again. . . .
lanerlee 25-04-2007, 23:38 The rooftop. . . and the building on top of a building.

JesseJacob 26-04-2007, 02:11 Looks like a good tour, how many designs did you see?
I think they are worth being posted as individual threads, otherwise I would have to split it into different threads.

joHanneum Z 26-04-2007, 09:21 wow. seems that it was a great tour. What else did you see?- sure more than the habitat. I consider to make this summer a great tour to the south of France.
