View Full Version : [Philadelphia] Kimmel Center for the Arts - Rafael Vinoly
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:18 Well, the thing is that my wife got offered a job position in Philadelphia, not in the city but pretty close, so we moved from Venezuela all the way up here.
These were taken 2 days ago, on my first trip to Philadelphia, so I might update this thread eventually with newer pictures.

jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:21 looking at the side entrance on Spruce St.
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:23 The main entrance, above the marquee (or canopy, not sure what word) theres a cafe terrace.
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:26 Inside , the whole space in here its called the COMMONWEALTH PLAZA, heres looking at the box offices.
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:27 The same location looking towards the main entrance and above.
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:28 same but looking up
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:30 same location but looking up towards the Perelman Theater, its a 650 seats multi-use theater, on top of it its the Hamilton Roof Garden. You can see also the Society of Founder's Wall.
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:32 Again, same place but slighty to the right, thats the Verizon Hall, its a 2,547 concert hall, outside its Makore wood, inside resembles a violin in shape (check Vinolys site)
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:34 This is by the Perelman Theater, in the ramp towards the elevators, looking at the Plaza, the Verizon Hall and the bridges.
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:36 All the upcoming pictures are taken in the top level, above the Perelman theater, its called the Hamilton Roof Garden, the following are all looking towards the Verizon Hall (western side)
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:37 same place
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:39 same place, but looking to the east side (entrance)
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:43 same, I guess those are ventilation pipes from below.
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:44 same location
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:45 looking down towards the plaza
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:46 same place, more towards the entrance, you see the box office in the ground floor and the cafe on the top balcony
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:49 Looking to the north
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:49 same
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:51 This is looking towards the outside elevators, they're in also made in panoramic glass, so you can see the city when going up.
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:53 A closer look to the bridge connecting the elevators and the inside
jedisalf 16-04-2007, 22:54 last one for now, a closer look to the structure.

I happen to be in Philly now and have just come back from a late night visit to the Kimmel, it's stunning, yet simple, deceivingly so.
The new constitution center is also interesting, I'll post some of the few photos I took later.
I wish you the best at your new position, hoping you promptly see the fruit of your efforts, labours and sacrifices.
Take care
Saludos
Juan
