yeah but two months to prepare a design with all the technical stuff and 6 A1 presentation boards for a project with a budget of 38millionUSD...
Jimmerman, I take it Snohetta are in? You guys gonna win?
I think the timing is a bit short as well to be honest - they've been talking about this for ages, so I'd think they could have given a bit more time for the design. 6 A1's isn't too bad though - for the recent (and still undecided) Dublin UCD Campus competition the design team had to submit 24 A1's, that's just nuts.
An article in the paper on sunday said that there had been an overwhelming response. Over 170 teams had signed up from 25 different countries so far.
I can't really comment on if the office will be participating... We don't often do 'open' (unpaid) competitions these days, but exceptions to the rule are made for particularly interesting projects (like the Oslo Opera (http://www.snoarc.no/default.asp?V_DOC_ID=941) which was an open competition with 230 entries)...
A friend of mine from Texas will be participating and is coming for the site visit. I'll be playing guide and will be at the site info session on friday incase any others are considering going. I mean hey - free hot dogs!
Interesting competition, thanks for posting. The time line is rather ambitious, but that's part of the competition spirit.
Zaha Hadid has designed a ski jump, correct? Wondering if her firm is already working on this one.
24 A1's, that's just nuts.
The official site visit was on friday. There were about 40 black-clad architects that turned up for the tour and free hot-dogs. The building is an icon for the whole city, but when you get up close it doesn't take long to understand why it needs refurbishing...
