Project 2007, Irishtown Bend, is an open, anonymous, single-stage ideas competition being administered by a committee comprised of Cleveland architecture professionals Michael Christoff and Bradley Fink, Greg Peckham of Cleveland Public Art, and Steve Rugare of Kent State University’s Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative.

OBJECTIVES:
We challenge entrants to present nationally prominent, architecturally significant design solutions for an under-utilized riverbed hillside and bluff along the western edge of Cleveland’s Industrial Flats. Successful solutions will provide the city with a connection to the natural and cultural histories of the industrial valley and provide an unprecedented vantage point from which to observe the next generation to the city’s evolution. The Project 2007 - Irishtown Bend competition site is roughly bound east-west by the Cuyahoga River and West 25th Street and north-south by the Detroit-Superior Bridge and the Cuyahoga Viaduct. Innovative and thoughtful solutions to the site’s challenges may include, but are not limited to, landscape design, building design, master planning, environmental design and artistic interventions. Entrants are encouraged to resolve important practical issues such as pedestrian and vehicular access, soils stabilization, view corridors and programming while exploring the site’s relevance within the greater Cuyahoga River Valley and as a national example of the natural cycle of regeneration of abandoned urban landscapes.

Seems very interesting. Thank you. Are you going to participate?

Yeah...I'll try to get some work done on it once the real project I am on settles down a bit. In about 8-10 days. I encourage all that have the time, to do so. Cleveland is trying real hard to get ahead after a bad couple of decades. We are making some progress, but it's slow going. This is an interesting chance to take a look at our river front. A much neglected area as of late. Very industrial in previous decades.

What is the cost to enter?

the great "mistake on the Lake" huh? I have been to Cleveland twice in the last two years and this area has promise. Lost of potential for a design and thanks for the post Ryarch. I've been looking for a project competition to sink my teeth into :) this could be one...

Your right, wizum, our river (The Cuyahoga) caught on fire in the 60's. It was so dirty and contaminated that the river itself burst into flames. It's much better now. Not a spark since then. We took a big hit in manufacturing, like many other cities in and around the 60's and 70's, when our steel mills started closing.

We are on our way back!

Suprise, surprise. I entered and didn't win.

They will not get me down. I will continue to enter these damn things. Lack of sleep, too much going on at work, frustration and an opportunity to exercise my brain. What else could you ask for? Anyway, the link below for the results:
