Best Photorealistic Animations?

Hi all,
For a while am into Maxwell (and sometimes artlantis R) for producing still images.
Maxwell is really nice.
My problem is:Maxwell will never be fast enough to make animations.
Question: Which renderprogram can produce photorealistic renders in a relative short time?

I saw some pretty good stuff on www.kraytracing.com in the animation section but i believe it's not a standalone interface.

Wow! I had no idea about kraytracing and that it's polish!!! I've never heard about it before. Anyway the best and surely the fastest GI solution is probably v-ray (www.chaosgroup.com)

well,
i think u should give cinema4d a try, u can get radiosity scens fast.
i think its one of the fastest renderers.
u get sketchup models and materials in a perfect way.

Depends on what you want to sacrifice. Artlantis and C4D look to be the fastest, but I've only seen a few people that can give outstanding results with the programs. Otherwise, the typical renders don't look up to par with your brazil, vray, maxwell, etc. IMO you get better results with better calculations which, inevitably, will result in longer render times.

Is vray compatible with sketchup? What is the basic way to use it with sketchup? Through .obj export out of sketchup?

lately I've been using VIZ + mental ray and the quality is quite good considering the speed. I got the same model rendered in the same ammount of time as Artlantis R with much better results.
mental ray is an alternative renderer that comes with VIZ, so I think it has to be used with it.

I must say that this is one of my pet peeves. "I know something you don't know..." And then they don't tell. Or give a reason.

This is how rumours start...

Well, I'm not sure if it is right now but it will be. check this site http://www.chaosgroup.com/pr/20050725_01.html
Chaosgroup also announced on Siggraph their V-Ray standalone which would make you able to export SU files into V-ray.

Mental Ray can give you high quality renderings but it's really much slower than v-ray. I know this since i changed my third party renderer from MR to V-ray. I've found v-ray to be in some sort of scenes 2 or more times faster.

Yes I do know something as I know the development team but I'm waiting to get the go ahead to tell all. I mearly mentioned it as it was asked.

Suffice to say the link on the chaosgroup site is only the starting point and there will be some very happy sketchup users soon.
