im jorge, a 2nd year architecture student from chile, and i got problems when i try to render a sketchup imported image with vray 1.5 on 3d studio max8,
i don't know why the images look weird, and if a want to put it the vray dsiplacement method... uff, its horrible, i don't know what to do, please helpme!! i'm really desperated.
i'm imported with almost all 3ds export configurations, and with dwg. and it's always the same

Maybe try the evaluation version of vray for sketchup.
You can find it here www.asgvis.com.
When you register you can download beta version 4.1.
At least then you don't have to bother with 3ds exports, instead you can use the sketchup file straight for rendering.
The evaluation version renders with a watermark on the upper left corner.
I don't know what the time frame for your project is, but if you have enough time to experiment i would try that option.
It is still beta so keep in mind that certain bugs may occur.
I am not sure if displacement is implemented. Better ask on the asgvis forum. The developers are always helpful. They reply once a day on users question.
Hope this helps.

i fcheck if you have duplicate faces (looks like)
in displacement try in 2d displacement first

thanks! =) i will try to download the vray for sketchup... and sorry, ain't put the frame render time... yeah, the render time is very low, but if i put on high resolution (beside that take a lots...) is the same error just with more resolution .. i made anoter test with simple models, and the same error happens

Maybe you should upload your scene (model) and we will examine and try for you with our systems (podium, VRay and Kerkythea). Maybe it's just a modeling "problem". Upload, we will have a look at this problem with you.
hi, thanks, there's one of my model in skp, i have te same troubles with all my skethup models exported to the 3ds... now im get involve on the renders plugins for sketchup, its better i think, but i can't download the vray for sketchup... the official download page it's down...
thanks for advance!

Can't see a problem at all with this model. I see it is in sketchup 5 and not 6. I rendered it with global illumination in Vray in 12 seconds - see attached
Juanin
I have added a base for the model, as it was floating in mid air, so nothing to cast shadows onto, and used different vray settings, so it took a little longer to render - 55secs.
You will want to add colour, or texture rather than leave it in native, default sketchup, either make it a white model or add texture - to suit your purpose.
and download vray beta - its neat! Hope this helps.

I Dont Know Why You Need Vray For Sketch Up Im Using Vray With 3d Max To Give My Work Realty I Need, But Ithink Su More Intrest With Lines And Shadow Come With It , It Give You Archtect Style And That What I Like In Su
Vray Give Sence Realty We Dont Need It In This Stage
May Be With 3d Max Or Maya Or Xsi

Maybe because they can't afford MAX; surprisingly, not everyone is made of money. Or maybe because Sketchup sometimes exports coplanar surfaces which are a real headache when texture mapping in MAX. Or perhaps they're not interested in having to learn another program from scratch.
There are plenty of reasons why it would be better to render directly from within Sketchup, if possible, instead of having to go through another program.

why do you want to add displacement(tile?,wood bumps, grass? what) ,why do you need displacement to do this render?
apply displacement to single objects (only plane that has grass by example)
do you have UVW maps applied to object in 3dmax?
espero que te sirva dele no mas y busque en google

Maybe it is not the case, but this was render in Artlantis S in 19 seconds...
thanks for your time!!
now i understand that the problem it's not with the model itself, its when i exported it to 3ds max to render it.
i know that my only solution it's install the SU vray
but i can't found it!!!
so i will be searching it for today also...
if anyone know a link to downlad it, please let me know... in te official page it's unaviable now..
thanks again a lot!

After registering to the forum at asgvis.com (and logging in) you can find the beta on the home page. ---> menu 'download' ---> 'my files'.
i hope this helps.

Hi buddy,
I have just simply export your model from SU as a DXF and import it into 3dMax9
and render it with V-ray 1.5 and they just render quickly with in seconds
here are some renders of your model.

Two more with HDRI's
Try texturing the model in 3dMax ( Vray ) or just use V-ray for SU beta
i've found the SU vray on the agvis home page... ¬¬ (it was down for all those days by the migration servers...)
it's the best that i can do
and after research it a lot.. i came to the conclusion that the problem was what the vray 1.53 its for max 9 and not for max 8
again a lot of tons of thanks for your time! because i'know that isn't too much
and your renders, and all that stuff :)
Jorge
Juanin, i had what seems the same problem as you, and i fixed it adjusting the export options from S.U. to 3dsmax :
in the 3ds esport options i check "Export two sided faces" - As : Materials
and leave all the other option unchecked
also i match the 3dsmax units with the S.U units in my case meters, and i watch for the dimensions of the exported model.
Hope it works for you.
greetings
