[Zurich] Heidi Weber Pavilion - Le Corbusier
Short description:
The Heidi Weber Museum (1961-1967) is one of Le Corbusier's final works. This private museum was intended to be a "complete work of art", not only being a remarkable piece of architecture but also displaying Le Corbusier's work as an artist and a designer. The museum is conceived as a prototype living / studio space, with two interconnected areas for each one of these functions. Unlike the rough concrete of most of his late works, this building features a metallic structure. A large roof is held by an independent structure above the volumes containing the enclosed spaces. Reference from "Le Corbusier - Ideas and Forms" by William J R Curtis - 1986 Phaidon Press: "For the Heidi Weber Pavillion, to stand on the lake shore in Zurich and contain a small collection of Corbusiana, Le Corbusier turned back to an old idea from the 1930s: a sequence of spaces under a steel truss umbrella roof. In the final version, bright-coloured porcelain enamel panels are juxtaposed with plate glass in dynamic Modulor proportions. The whole thing has the character of a shining toy and seems to anticipate "High Tec"." |

Hoeschgasse 8, 8034 Zurich Opening hours: It is seldomly open, so make sure you check in advance. Last Summer (from July - September) it was open Saturdays and Sundays from 2PM to 5PM How to get there: From the airport take any train to MAINSTATION “ZURICH HB“ (12 min), change to tram #4 (direction Tiefenbrunnen) to HOESCHGASSE (15 min), walk towards the lake (2 min). You can also walk from the city center. Although it's a little far - approximately 2.5 km from the central station - you can cross the historic central area along Niederdorfstrasse towards the South and continue along the lakeside. |
