Claesson Koivisto Rune

The Swedish design partnership Claesson Koivisto Rune was founded seven years ago as an architectural office but is, in the classic Scandinavian way (like Jacobsen, or Aalto) multi-disciplinary, which means that theypractise both architecture and design.

The architectural practice spans from the smallest private house to biggerpublic or commercial projects. Current projects include a new privately funded house of culture in central Kyoto.

Furniture designs are produced by companies such as Asplund, Boffi, Cappellini, David design, Dune, Living Divani, Nola, Offecct, Skandiform, Swedese among others. And introducing a new piece for E&Y.

"Our design process is always very intuitive. Ideas come from all possible directions. And even if intuition is always based on experience it ishard, if not impossible, to detect a straight line of thought when being in the middle of it all.

This April in Milan we were approached by Mr. Yoichi Nakamuta of E&Y to do our first solo exhibition of furniture in Japan together with Axis. We gladly accepted and found ourselves forced to look back at what we had done over the last years.

Much to our surprise a structure unravelled. A structure that never before had been apparent to us. Very exciting! A chair was clearly related to another chair designed five years ago which in turn related to a lamp that related to a new table etc. Not unlike a family tree, even if it’s branches did not grow straight but up, down, sideways, diagonal, crooked. Like a DNA molecule.

The family tree became the metaphor for both the actual design of the exhibition and the idea behind."

I really like the design of the No.5 House, private house, 150m², Nacka, Sweden. I have seen it published before, but couldn't recall the firm that designed it. Thanks for posting this work.
