[2007.03.14] Tagus river banks international design competition
This is an ideas competition, open to all architects.
It has the objective of defining strategies to structure future developments and inter municipal cohesion in a territory connected by a section of the Tagus river, in the middle of the portuguese territory. Registration deadline - March 13, 2007 (*) Submission deadline - March 14, 2007 (*) - this is not a mistake. The registration is free of charge and is done by mail, using a PDF form available online (the PDF is only in portuguese for the moment - I already asked if there will be an english version and I'm waiting for a reply. Along with it I will post the exact address to where the form is to be sent). The registration will give you access to all the information about the site, that will be sent to you in a DVD by mail. The prizes are interesting and so is the jury, which includes 3 architects - Gonçalo Byrne (prominent portuguese architect - hope I can create a thread about him soon but in the meantime here's his website - portuguese only), Luis Moreno Mansilla (from Mansilla + Tuñon) and Manuel Aires Mateus (from Aires Mateus). In a time where the discussion focus the lack of architectural freedom some competitions allow, this is probably the opposite, and has a jury that will surely guarantee a good evaluation of the proposals. competition website Last edited by vOid; 06-12-2006 at 19:56.. Google earth file with the location of the site.
(I have marked roughly the two ends of the competition site (Chamusca to the West and Mação to the East). |

I've just received the address to where the registration should be sent (it's directly to the portuguese architects institute):
Ordem dos Arquitectos - Secção Regional Sul Travessa do Carvalho, 23 1249-003 Lisboa Portugal Also the other contacts: Tel +351213241167 Mobile +351936207900 Web: www.oasrs.org Seems that the PDF should be available in english. That is being checked now. Last edited by vOid; 06-12-2006 at 22:41.. |

Yes... but why don't you consider an overseas collaboration with someone from Europe?
Anyway, if you're interested I can try to find out if Brazilian architects are allowed to participate. Since our countries have lots of treaties for other issues such as immigration and other professions, one never knows... |

Competition open to all architects worldwide
I've just received an email update from one of the organizers of this competition and it seems that the portuguese architects institute (ordem dos arquitectos) will accept proposals from architects from any country, as long as they make proof of being architects through a document issued by their country's official association of architects. Since it's an ideas competition that will not result in actually building anything, everyone is invited...

I have just checked the website, couldn't find any English documentation for the competition. Is it going to be sent an English version of the registration form? What about the DVD, is it all in Portuguese?
Any updates? |

I don't know why the english pdf files aren't available yet. I'll email one of the organizers who is a friend of mine and ask him what's going on since I already told him about that problem a few weeks ago and he said it would be solved soon. I'll also ask him about the DVD. As soon as I get an answer I'll post it here.

I'm sorry for the late update, but only now did I get a reply from the organization.
There's an english version of the DVD available. The registration PDF documents in english aren't available yet, but the organization provided an email for all those interested to contact and ask how to register or any additional information they might need: info@concursotejo.eu |
