FYI: From the Rules and Guidlines:

"All homes in Cotton Bay Estates must specifically conform to the Bahamian Colonial architectural style." (the pdf has pictures of this style if you do not know what it is )

Be sure to read the guidlines before you sign up. Doesn't sound like anything I would be interested in.

Actually, you guys should read this thing! Its really funny. The development has very strict design guidelines. Calling it an architecture competition is a joke. If the desing rules had just said, "No architecture permitted" it would have saved them a lot of work.

This competition is a total crock! I find it interesting that Meyer would have anything to do with this.

Why would you say there is nothing "architectural" about this competition? I agree there are some very strict guidelines, but why could one not design something architectural? Maybe it is the definition of architecture we should look at. Personally, I see this no different than dealing with anyones local municipality.

I think this bring to point that it is a "stylistic" competition then Josh? If in fact the rules of the comp, create a strict guideline for stylistic preferences. so why the hell is Richard Meier one of the judges then? I wonder what they are paying him to be one if in fact the designs are to adhere to such strict guidelines.

And emow54 I think what Josh means is that there is no inventiveness in this competition from a design standpoint. Sure the task is architectural but if, in the end, all your doing is creating a house through the use of stylistic principals to generate your design. But maybe I'm off on this? I would like to know how you think this is different if that is the case.
