High Dynamic Range Imaging (HDRI) in photography

I did a search and couldn't find any thing about this (except goggldigook about rendering) and its one of the best things I've found out about recently.

"The main concept behind High Dynamic Range imaging is that you taking several normal photos and combining them. By combining photos of the same scene at different exposure levels, you create a a surreal image with hyper-real colours and detail. The technique actually has real-world applications when taking indoor shots, when you want a level of detail that a single exposure will not allow."
see here

Below is my first effort, a bit garish but there were lots of options that you can tweak. It offers exciting possibilities for interior photographs... see the image in the next post

A much subtler example of this technique. This is my first try.
camera: Nikon coolpix4500 (tripod + shutterspeed bracketing)
HDRI software: photomatix pro (Tone mapping method)
Lense distortion correction: Photoshop

Hey! What's special about this pic? Well, many of you might think that way, I'm not at all a good photographer, but...
This pic is probably the best shot of my life as far as the trueness of colors and light is concerned.
My jaw dropped when I saw this pic for the first time. It was the identical twin of what I saw in reality (on the site).
It is even better in the original tiff file.
So definitely I will play around with this technique for a while. Will keep you guys posted...
(Example: the photos in my recent thread, Pola Museum of Art are OK, but I know they no way represent the real colors I saw there,
even after some color tweaking. Now I know what I should have done.)

awesome!
right now i wanna run and get my camera and the trypod.
defenitly I´ve seen pictures like these but i always wondered how do they do it?

i had this teacher "Mito cobarrubias" who is an architect and one of the most recognized photographers in the city, who has many pictures like these. the thing is that he never reveals any of his secrets

HDR is no secret Danielz... there is plenty of info on the web about the technique and methods to create images using it...

thanks gorgon for posting this thread... I have heard about HDR but have been skeptical of it unitl now and seeing the results (and after having some understanding of its advantages and how easy it is to generate)...

Create image Takesh... very well done and you sure fooled me on you not being a very good photographer great job...

OK... so I was inspired to check this out... I downloaded the free version of photomatix (using the highlights & shadows auto setting) and this is the result below... if you check out my version of these image HERE in my post on night images (starting at post #20) you can see the difference... this image, compared to the others I took, is much sharper and the exposure is better than any of the others I took individually. I will have to play around with the other settings to see what this software will do... thanks for the link on it... Also, is there a plug-in in the CS-2 version of PS that deals with HDR?

It is not plug-in, the function is already there, wizum.
How to Create Professional HDR Images
I tried this method as well and I have to disagree with him.
The last part of this method (histogram tweaking) is too experience-dependent and
have very little individual control (hue, contrast, luminosity, darkness or lightness)
over images compared to photomatix. I couldn't get any decent results with PS.

Meanwhile, I think this comparison chart might help you guys about the differences of two methods.
