smooth in VIZ

This is a really newbie question. I just imported a SU file into 3ds and I cannot smooth the meshes.
I tried modifiers smooth and meshsmooth, but they don't seem to work.
Does anybody know how to do it?

wel is in fact for 3dMax but think it can help. Viz and max are close to each other ,no?

Yes they're almost the same! Thank you temjin. It actually was really easy. In v5 export with weld vertexes selected and smooth surfaces will remain.
