House at the Beach in Peru
Project - "Casa de Playa BC"
Location - Lima, Peru In a beach area called Asia Type of Project - Beach House Design Parameters - Typical for a beach house in that area: 4 bedrooms with baths, living, dining, kitchen and an area for service. Parking is in a dedicated area elsewhere. Also these beaches are organized around "clubs" and they have their own regulations. For instance the house HAS to be painted white. You are allowed some areas of exposed concrete but it gets approved under the discretion of the committee. Also the house HAS to be exactly 3.5 mts tall (measured from the sidewalk that is no necessarily adjacent to the lot). The lot is 12 x 35 and the lots are organized in pairs (you can use 100% of the lot provided you have the normative light and ventilation). Also it can only be 1 storey tall and you can’t build a basement because it is in the 1st development row so the ocean is not that far.. (Meaning not that deep either). Design Approach - Since beach houses have a very simple program, the approach was to take advantage of its simplicity and use it to express its form (Not the first time I use this approach for a beach house BTW). Basically there are 3 areas: private, public and service so there will be 3 volumes all articulated by an interior open space for ventilation and light. The private volume will be an enclose volume with light via a skylight (and it improves privacy since it is next to a public corridor and the public will be very open. The service volume will be very inexpressive to keep it as anonymous… From an operational point of vie I started with two bars and opted for subtracting everything the voids… Tools/Programs- Sketchup MicroGDS for schematics and Autocad for the Plans The house is scheduled to start construction in April of next year (you are only allowed to build in the winter and if you don’t finish by the next summer you get a huge fine… This is the location in Google...
