bikoon

hi.
here our (alex and me) proposal for the competition "re-inventing the bike-shed".
a sort of a protective cocoon, storage and parking unit for bycicles in london.
it can be use as a single unit or in different patterns as mass-storage in the city.

wonder what you think of it....

I think you would get much better feedback if you just posted some images. Just a suggestion.

Sexy project and presentation for sure, but looks like such a waste of space and energy to protect one single bicycle... Besides, I don't understand how the "bikoon" tower works when one wants to store or get his bike back from the top of it... I mean, your project rather looks like a bike haul or something (aerodynamic shape), just add a pair of wheels. Well, maybe I got it completely wrong, so I'm gonna wait for some more informations before rating this thread...

Well considering the safety issues in this regard I have issue with the height of the handle and the fact that the one has to reach down so far to "lift" the lid.

Also I would encourage any bike storage to accomodate hanging opportunity for helmet and wet weather gear. Which brings to mind drainage!!

thank you for your comments!
and than sigue2000 for trasforming my pdf in jpg, it looks like it's working better...

@ michel
i think what you says about space and energy may be right for one bicycle, although i think there are enough people with a 3000$ bike and no storage possibilities, and they would be happy buying a 500$ bikoon to protect their "baby", and in the "tower" other "wall" pattern (where the bikoon are recepied and released from an hidraulic mechanism), with less costs, space and energy pro unit it would be interesting...
the form comes exclusively from the "vital" shape of a bike with a child seat.
naturally a little bit sexy-made

@richard
i think the handle is not too low, knee-high, and we designed it to be not high in the open-configuration

inside the bikoon, in the upper part, is a net, where helmet etc could take place, as well as opening (rechearge) cases for electrical devices.

i will post some more images......

sumocool is an unknown quantity at this point
great looks and even better pdf... but this seems like it'll cost more than the bike one will put inside it.

Hey what is the cyclindrical thing in the bottom right of the pdf (looks like a bunch of undersized bananas or something) is it a concept to stack the bikoons together in the form of a parking lot of sorts?
