Power Point Portfolio
I have been working today at converting my hard copy rendering and artwork Portfolio to a Powerpoint presentation and would love some feedback.
The Hard copy is CD mailer size and wire comb bound, with a CD insert and contains the same content. I haven't developed the CD contents as yet. I've only included works I have designed myself so no one has a go later! So go for it and don't hold back bad crit is good crit for me! By the way does anyone know how to compress wave files, the file I used is 1.5Mb and I'd like to get it down to about 350kb. And by the way I've never used powerpoint before so could someone tell me does musis get packed with it? Ok compressed the music (thanks Franjayo) and included this time, took on board the comments everyone made but did leave the text on some of the images. This is the NEWLY (Oct 22) updated version! Lets see how we go this time (hopefully we have sound!). Hmmm I'll have to try some other way seems I can't upload more than 2 MB zip!??????? Got it but had to compress further some of the images to get under 2Mb. Last edited by Richard; 22-10-2006 at 09:30.. |

I don't know if music is going to really enhance the presentation. I liked it without. You don't want someone to miss something because they didn't like the music. Keeping a small file size has its advantages.

I think you are selling yourself a bit short. These were not just your rendered images, they are your designs as well. But, this may have been your intent. I think it would be benificial if you included a paragraph which mentioned the client, the use of the building, the issues and how you dealt with them. Overall, I think the presentation reads well. There is one slide about half way through the show where the white background does not seem to work. Actually, it is the slide with the pavillion image on it. Feels a bit too harsh. I like the white at the end as it really brings the eye to your info.

Just viewed your PP Richard... very fine work... I think you covered the work well in your format... very clear... very "to the point"... and art-fully done... we could maybe bicker about little stuff but this presentation is very successful in my mind... your transitions are well timed and the way things fade in and out are right on... would there be anyway to give a little more control to the viewer though so that they can pause to ponder a particular place? other than that I think a real winning presentation and it respresents your work well...

Nice work! Colors are well choosen, photos are great!
Now the 'bad critique'.. tooooooo fast, very much too fast! impossible (for me) to read all the text before the images change, before new texts appear. give the spectator time to read, to look at the images, to think... As everybody has an individual manner of reading/looking you could add sth like a 'next' button. The text that goes with the images should not be put into the image. they are too colorfull, it's sometimes hard to read letters (esp. the last page) put all the text next to the image, this will go along with the clear and neat style of your presentation. or into the image, but this will change all the screening and the intention. the last page: get the text out of the image, if you do not have enough space, set up another page. have a try not to change the letters, they are bold, keep them slim. Its better to have the same style throughout the presentation. as a finish you can also have a closer look to your style and spaces between the letters, but that is hair-splitting. I really like your work and I think you can easily get it perfect! hope you don't get me wrong with all the critique, and that it is understandable!

...to make a "roll over" inside Power Point?
Cool Portfollio! Seems Open Office Org Impress can't support your automatic presentation? Rectification it can (key F5) ![]() Maybe the caractere of Police of the little texte is too thiny? Last edited by Frenchy Pilou; 12-10-2006 at 23:11.. |

Richard, I would keep the text to it's minimum. Well, of course I'm not a english native speaker so I'm surely taking twice the time to go through it. But nonetheless, I believe the key words you're giving in the last page are much better. Maybe you could keep the reading stuff for the end, you know, something like "my vision is..." As Thebear said, I would go for a slimmer font instead of the bold one. Appart from that, clean presentation, neat projects... very Richardesque (it's a compliment
)! I almost feel uncomfortable trying to give you some kind of advice as I should do a portfolio presentation for myself... I'd better move my ass!

great presentation.
I'd either slow it down or reduce the text. Trying to read the text distracts from observing the image - and it seems that you are "selling" the image, so I'd perhaps look at cutting words down remember if you're sending this out to a potential client you may have already made contact - so they will be expecting images of your work - what you can do. Speed is ok, transitions work well, and the images are great - well done |

Looks great Richard, but I do not hear the sound. What is the target you want to reach? Have you considered adding some real photos?
I am using "Open Office Impress" which opens Powerpoint files nicely, also saves PPT. I checked and you can also add sound or movies in Impress. Maybe you can check out if sound works better with it. I do not like Powerpoint maybe you should try Impress. http://www.openoffice.org/ To convert, reduce and play with sound files I use DB Power: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm Last edited by franjayo; 13-10-2006 at 03:00.. |
