I've got this mail from the director, and i hope to share it with you guys about it. :)
"Dear SketchUp user,

Thank you for your interest in V-Ray for SketchUp! I am writing to inform all of you about the development of V-Ray for SketchUp. I first should say, despite what you may have heard about V-Ray for SketchUp, the V-Ray development has been running at a very aggressive pace for the last several months. With that being said we promise that the long awaited release of V-Ray for SketchUp is just around the corner. All of you have asked when V-Ray for SketchUp will be released. We can only say as soon as possible because we are reluctant to give an exact release date for either the final release or the beta release at this time. However, we do promise to keep you all better informed of the development status.

There are still some details of the development of V-Ray for SketchUp for us to work out. We have and we are developing for SketchUp 5. Development plans for SketchUp 6 are in the works. Our first beta release will for sure be PC release only. We do have a port of V-Ray for the Intel based Mac. We are trying now to figure out what a build for the PPC based Mac’s will take. We are working with the Chaos Group very closely to develop a Mac OSX release of V-Ray.

I also want to take a minute to clarify something with regards to V-Ray and SketchUp. SketchUp to V-Ray is the original plug-in that we made for SketchUp. The images posted on the website are rendered with that plug-in. SketchUp to V-Ray is an exporter that sends scenes to the V-Ray Standalone. At this time last year we were not sure of the exact release date of the standalone so we decided to develop V-Ray for SketchUp. During the past 12 months or so we have been developing the first generation global user interface for V-Ray. It so happens that the demand for a Rhinoceros plug-in took priority over SketchUp. The Rhinoceros plug-in was released on July 17th 2006. So the majority of our development focus has now shifted to the final V-Ray for SketchUp 1.0 release. We will get the software to you all as professionally and quickly as possible.

I finally wanted to add that V-Ray for SketchUp will include the following:

V-Ray Physical Sky, Sun, and Camera
V-Ray Frame Buffer
V-Ray Material and Texture Editor

As with Rhinoceros 3D, we will not be including displacement mapping or distributed rendering with the V-Ray for SketchUp 1.0 release.

We can only hope that you all are as excited about this as we are. We are a sincere and small development team. We are committed to building great products, support, and service.

Best regards,

Corey Rubadue
Director"

I'm sure it will, looking at Vray's output for max and other applications. Most importantly fast and realistic render for Sketchup!

Sounds great but sad that displacement mapping won't be supported. When we eventually get a renderer with displacement mapping we can halve the modelling and get much more realistic results, till ten we are pretty much just adding lighting.

Still it has me excited.

distributed rendering would be much needed too... I guess this is really for those who can sit around and wait for the render

Not with Vray. Even without distributed Rendering, Vray is still blazing fast.

Unless you're doing a really large complex scene with lots of geometry, caustics, refractions and reflections.......

The screenshots that were presented when the sketchup link to vray was announced (is it 2 years already?) were not typical vray quality.

The new announcement at the top of this thread sounds good though....but aren't we all getting bored of vague announcements from software developers announcing the next big thing without having a time schedule?

So...as usual... : We will see it when it get's there.

And then delivering something broken (maxwell v1 / v1.1 / v ? ? ?)

I think it's better than giving a date and then failing to live up to it. NextLimit's silliness with the whole Maxwell fiasco, affected the rest of the industry in more ways than you can possibly imagine; no one now will ever be willing to give you a specific date until they're certain that they have a complete working product.

If it's any consolation, the Vray for Rhino plugin that they developed and released seems to work really well with typical Vray level quality renders. If they can do the same for sKetchup even without the displacement in this version, then it would be huge IMHO, for Sketchup user, if they don't have to leave the program to get their renders done and can get it done from within Sketchup like it is with the Vray for Rhino plug.

What Maxwell did is something that is very, very common within the software industry.

Wonder how long did the rhino users waited for the plugin? I'm not quite sure when was the news of SU plugin released. But hopefully we can get a big christmas present this year. Maxwell was in another business class of its own, with some reforming being done in it's office. There was a post in another forum about them finally admitting their business approach was way wrong since the beginning. Well... keep our fingers cross for the release....
