We just started a design competition here at Ball State University and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good precedent studies on CMU and/or incorporating glass. We’re designing an urban glass museum for Dunkirk, Indiana and I have loads of information on Glass, but I’m not quite sure how to make exposed CMU very interesting. I’ve also been researching fiber-optic CMU, but can’t find much information on it’s development. Any ideas?

There is a product out there somewhere (even a thread here about it) that makes cmu translucent. Very cool. Don't forget the obvious cmu applications: ground face cmu is one off my favorite products. When the face is ground smooth and sealed, the colors of the aggregate are exposed and can offer some beautiful hues for using as a key for choosing other materials and colors. Reds, greens, greys, etc.

I'll try to find the translucent stuff for you.

Thanks for the product link, it helps for a particular section of our project, but I was still wondering if anyone knew of any Spectacular CMU builidings exsisting or hypethetical.

Do you have any photos of the concrete/ recycled glass product? Does it look like any other CMU?
