View Full Version : [REQUEST] Late winter trip
Guys & gals,
I am making a vacation trip up to go skiing in West Virginia (snowshoe) the first week of March. After the skiing me and my girlfriend will head up to Cleveland to visit some of her fam. We will spend a few days there and then will head back home late in the week..
What I am after is any architecture stuff worth seeing in Cleveland (I know about the rock-n-roll hall of fame), Columbus, OH, & Cincinati, OH... I have checked out the Galinsky webpage and there was one or two there I wasn't familiar with but is there anyother places I shouldn't miss?
thanks,

didn't even think of that... I will check it out and see what our exact path will be... would even be worth a hour or two outa the way for fallingwater...
thanks,
near fallingwater is Kentuck Knob
website (http://www.kentuckknob.com/html/home.htm)
i have never been to K.K., i think it just opened a few years ago.
If you are already going through Cincy...you should stop at The new Contemporary Art Museum there. It's Kick Ass!
Falling Water is a great stop. The tours are informative and thorough. It is not too far, and if you're going to be within 150 miles of it...it is a must see. You may be able to knock off The Knob, too. It's about 15 minutes from Falling Water.
It would be really cool if you draw a line in google earth with your trip and then turn on the archinform (http://www.archinform.net/earth1.kml) layer to see what is around.
If you upload the line we could also help. As you describe it it's hard for me to grasp the places that are around.
well after looking around some on the net and google earth, with the archiform plug-in for GE, I decided to take Cacapis's suggestion... so here is the kmz of my travel path... starting in Atlanta and ending in Atlanta... of course I know the stuff along the path that is marked by archiform so other suggestions not from archiforms marks would be cool... thanks... oh and we will be staying a few days in Cleveland and really only be passing through both Columbus and Cinci...
and let me know if for some reason my path doesn't work... don't know if you have to have the GE plus or not to view it...
franjayo 15-02-2006, 10:57 I like cities even more than buildings. I found out Pittsburgh to be a beautiful city, quite different from what I expected from the usual image of an industrial city. The surprise arrival to the city from a tunnel by Route 279 is impressive.

You should make a small detour to Columbus, Indiana (http://www.columbus.in.us/page.asp?page=Architecture). It is incredible: the size of city to the content by architects there...most buildings there are by international architects: Gunnar Birkerts, Eliel Saarinen, I.M. Pei & Partners, Eero Saarinen, Cesar Pelli, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, and Gwathney Siegel & Associates just to name a few.
Next time I was going that way, I vowed to take a working camera...but, I'd encourage you to go!
Columbus is a very good idea. Chocked full of good stuff. Be sure to check the hours at Fallingwater. It's off the beaten track and kind of drive. You don't want to show up at the gate 5 minutes after closing like I did.
If you make to Cincy then you really need to stop on campus to see the Morphosis building. Just opened.
I knew about columbus, IN but forgot the name of the city and where it exactly was. I knew it was around where I was traveling. Will have to see if it is a possibility with the girlfriend. I think she is already getting nervous about all the architectural stops I am talking about doing :) I have convenced her for falling water on our way up to Cleveland from Snowshoe :) She actually is interesting in checking it out too... thanks for the input guys... keep it coming if there is more... oh and franjayo thanks for the Pittsburg suggestion... I do know about the city but it looks as though we will only do a quick drive through on our way north... to much to see and too little time...
