Any advice or tips for importing curved/rounded faces from sketchup to MAX? I've gotten them to be smooth before, but I can't remember how I did it. lol.
I've exported a model (in groups) as a dwg and a 3ds, but they both are unsmoothed when they come into Viz, or Max. I'm rusty with Viz, and I don't know MAX, yet, so I'm a little lost. If I find anything out I'll post it in here, too.

Anyway, in VIZ, right click on your object, select convert to poly; in the edit mode, select vertexes mode (geometry-level), select all by Ctrl-A and click on weld button, the one with the box... there, in the box, click on the 'down' arrow to downsample the number of vertexes... until you reach 0.0 (this is important: not directly type 0 in the box!). The number of vertexes should have diminished. If so, Click OK. if not, undo, and redo it from the beginning.
Then, go into 'poly' mode and select All by Ctrl-A again. Crawl for the 'Autosmooth' button (beneath) and click on it. Exit from the poly mode.
Voila. It's smoothed now... :D
Strange I remember posting a screenshot of my export options.
Anyways it's really easy. When you export from sketchup in the options you check "export texture maps" and "welding vertices" and all the surfaces that are smooth in SU will be smooth in MAX/VIZ.
Btw, I think that if you have welding vertices checked and you uncheck export texture maps they remain smooth.

I forgot to mention that the cacapis tip works only in SU5.
Mine works with SU4 and 5 but is useless if you have SU5. :D
