Thanks to Silicon's 3ds file, I managed to rebuild all the model instead of cleaning it (3ds exporting :bang head ). Made some minor corrections... Feel free to upgrade the model as I'm not a texture master... :D

Azuma House Commentary
In a dense, urban core of Osaka row-houses, Ando inserted a simple, narrow concrete rectangular residence. With spaces flanking an interior courtyard, there is an attempt to return the 'contact with light, air, rain, and other natural elements' to the Japanese life-style. "In addition to providing light and serving as the focal point of family life, this small court is a spatial entity that attempts to compensate for the reduced physical space." It attempts to reinstate a traditional model using a modern vocabulary.

—Darlene Levy. drawn from Kenneth Frampton, ed. Tadao Ando: Buildings Projects Writings. p26.

The Creator's Words
"In its simple but rich spatial composition, in its expression of enclosure, and in the way light gives character to daily-life spaces, this house encapsulates an image of my architecture."—Tadao Ando

—Tadao Ando. Tadao Ando, Buildings Projects Writings. New York: Rizzoli, 1984. p26.

nice model, michel.
Either you or siliconbauhaus made the house too large, it's about 1.5 times bigger than the real one.
The house is 3.3m*14.1m at wall centers, and all wall thickness is 150mm.
This is a tiny house even by Japanese standard.

A friend of mine was refugee in France (1970's), and he traveled to Belgium to meet his parents just arriving from Argentina, when it became dark, so they decided to look for a cheap motel to spend the night (he was on a very tight butget).
They didn't realize they had gone into the red zone, so this guy and his mother entered to ask for a room, while his father looked out for the car....
The guy at the counter asked him with whom was he "going to the room" (wich on of the ladies), and he said, " avec ma maman" (with my mother)...

the guy outraged shouted " ah no, CA dans LA BELGIQUE NON !!!!"
Ah no, this in BELGIUM NO!!

very funny how this guy became so nationalistic about Belgian Morality!!!

runa,

Thank you for these analyses. They are quite helpful with my study. Although the Powerpoint presentation( 01 House Azuma.zip) is written with an Asian script I can not read, the images are a welcome addition to my research.. I have a very similar site condition and was looking for a good conceptual analysis.

ps saving as .jpg will give you much smaller file sizes ( than .bmp)

Hi,

I've got some questions about the Azuma House. :) I have an urgent homework about this house and cannot find the information I'm looking for. Hope you can help me. :)

The houses near the Azuma House close the view of the little windows of it as long as I can see from the photos. How do those windows get the sunlight? Or do the windows have another function?

What's the direction of the house? I mean, is its frontal side at south for example, or what? What's the house's coordination I mean? Do you have a general plan of the house with a street name, some important buildings near it and the directions given? If you have it, could you post or send it to my e-mail address, please?

Do you have any info about the Azuma House base system? And the materials, ingredients included in the structure of the house?

And lastly, there are 50 cm long spaces left between the basement and the plank bottom, what is the function of these spaces if you know? :)

Thanks in advance for all your help and the answers that you will provide me. They are going to be quite useful for me.

My e-mail address is seda.demir.sd@gmail.com

Thanks!!

This house is interesting and I must say Ando is very creative and daring But personally I don't like this house.

Partly because of the lack of windows on the facade. To me it looks very cold.
One great little house, nevertheless.

I'm there I've changed it, it's just my e-mail, I got that when I was in 9th grade, give me a break. Anyway I was just hoping someone would be helpful in helping with a furniture piece in the Azuma house in CAD format since I really can't find any information on its furnitures.
Thanks!

Can the large windows facing the courtyard be opened?

I seriously doubt the small floor level windows would be comfortably adequate for ventilation:wondering

Hey guys..

Might anyone have the construction details of Azuma House? There are some fantastic renderings here, but I need the dimensions... Or perhaps point me in the right direction?

Thanks. :)
