Just returned home after 2 weeks on Connecticut, and i visited this buiding in New Haven, on Yale University, is the last work by Kahn, completed after his death around 1974.

Directions:
Yale Center for British Art
1080 Chapel Street‚ PO Box 208280
New Haven‚ Connecticut 06520-8280

HOW TO GET THERE:
Pretty easy, in the center of New Haven, is just one block from the New Haven Green, every bus on new haven will take you there.

In fron is the Yale Arts Gallery, the first building by Kahn, but it was on renovation so you couldnt see it.

The bilding is pure concrete, the floor is marble, carpet and wood, and wood wall coverings.

Is pretty simple concept, will suit perfectly on todays minimalism, a piece of art, i really enjoyed it, the collections were cool also, but im not such an art fan, i was just looking the building...hehehe

Inside the cylinder staircase, looking towards the roof, it has glass blocks on the ceiling, when youre on the 4th floor, it casts a nice shadow, it seems like being underwater

I love this building. Aside from the architecture, its a wonderful place to view paintings as there are many views through and out of the building so the eye gets rest and relaxation from focusing on paintings.

Scale, materials, colors, and warmth suited to the collection of British art. Some nice Turners. I vastly prefer it to the large sterile white boxes deemed necessary to display contemporary art.

The British Art Center was his Kahn's last commission, but be sure to see his first commission right across the street; the Yale Art Gallery. Not as wonderful as the BAC, but interesting to see his first and last together.

Definitely an Architect - poet! Love his buildings.

BTW: Do these pictures deserve THIS building? perhaps some Turner to raise the level, but from what I see.. :wondering

Just read your post PeterE, so there are a few Turners to see..!! :rock on:
