spadestick 29-12-2005, 16:15 I really love this architect's work. honestly... he's got scale composition and proportion right for one, and he selects good materials detailed well. Bravo!
:D :D
Another master of proportions, one of his creations : the lalu in taiwan.

excellent, Melissa. I've only seen the Casa Brasil, so it is good to see other components of his design works...

Very nice post. Many thanks.
Lovely balance in the use of the materials and detailing is perfection. I shall do much more research on this architect.

Well, rosa (or tulip?)... when do you plan to publish your 'world arch encyclopedia by mimi'??? :D
Just curious :wondering
His architecture is beautiful but his website is close to unpenetrable!
Maybe its because I am using Firefox but it is one of those websites that is just trying to be too clever. Looks pretty but works like poo.

departuresphoto 31-05-2006, 18:53 Hello,
I saw your write-up on Marico Kogan and I need their contact information. I went to their website and unfotunately was not able to find it there. I don't know if it was an issue of language or the way the website was set up, but if you have it or are able to find it in their website could you email it to me? I am at Departures Magazine - a culture magazine published by American Express and need their information for an architecture story.
thanks so much
Catherine

kleinjakob 14-01-2007, 22:15 Hy, are there any books about his work?
I've looked around, googled it but didn't find anything. It's always good to have some nice buildings "touchable" near yourself - even if they are just printed...
And mimi, thanks again you are an encyplopedia alive...

And not to speak of you in the just the third person, welcome Marcio!! Your work is beautiful.:)

Hi,
Great thread! :) :craqueur:
Just thought I'd add a little note:
I've posted two small articles on Marcio's Cury/Mirindiba House & Larajeiras House on my blog. Added images and plans. Hopefully I'll have some more up soon.

webdesigner 10-11-2007, 00:15 I'm a student of architecture at the Venice IUAV university in Italy, and I'm searching information for a study about the Du Plessis house.
In the available publication I founded only the plan, a cross section and the south-east façade. I would appreciate if you could post more drawings , like the other three façade, a longitudinal section and some details if possible.
Thanks in Advance.

Haaz galeri – Istanbul : block
Turkish natural stone meets contemporary design
November 15 - 30, 2007
Opening on 15th of November, Thursday
HAAZ Gallery is proud to present BLOCK, the first international design exhibition with a manifesto generated in Turkey. Design visionaries of the world were presented with a precious source abundant in mainland Turkey: marble. Promoting the use of valued base materials rooted in Turkey, advanced production methods, proficient craftsmanship and extraordinary human resources; BLOCK aspires to discover new methods and ways through the interaction between the local producers and contemporary designers. As a token of their dedication and commitment to contemporary design and art, BLOCK is sponsored by the Natural Stone Producers and Exporters of Turkey- IMIB.
18 renown designers have touched Turkish Natural Stone and sent in proposals to be commissioned and processed with Turkish natural stone by the industries and craftsman in Turkey. Beyond the enduring bonds to be established between cultures with BLOCK, the exhibition aspires to generate the flow of information within the zeitgeist of cutting-edge design and natural stone industries of Turkey.
In tribute to the nature of the material, the designers have approached marble from many different directions: lightness and weight, timelessness, mythological references and their complexities, evolution of the material and the reinterpretation of traditions.
Haluk Akakçe, Autoban, Gokhan Avcıoglu, Jurgen Bey, Campana Brothers, Arthur Casas, matali crasset, Simon Heijdens, Marcio Kogan, Konstantin Grcic, Jason Miller, Paola Navone, Arif Ozden, Tanju Ozelgin, Marcelo Rosenbaum, Aziz Sariyer and Michael Youn's designs have been realized in a single edition art object in marble.
Designs that marry organic and linear forms with natural stone display a certain sort of sentimentality mixed with a more contemporary design sense. Marble, long acclaimed for its qualities in architectural use, is transformed into design art in BLOCK, retaining its traditional authority but gaining value for contemporary material culture and design.
BLOCK, produced by Haaz Gallery and curated by Murat Patavi will be featured at Antrepo No:3,
adjacent to Istanbul Modern from 15 to the 30th of November, 2007.

I entirely agree with you :D
SWANK-E was only joking :D
I really dont get why everyone is so in love with Marcio Kogans work? Ive just spent half an hour looking over 20+ pages in this thread and all i can see is the same design being rehashed over and over and over again. It just reads like a series of expensive houses for wealthy clients. Each one is a long rectilinear box balanced on top of another long rectilinear box. Theres little or no development in his work at all. People bash Libeskind for being a one tick pony, but this guy is taking the piss, even his WTC competition entry was a long rectilinear box!?
Tommyoh, it depends on the point of view, what is the best architecture? Very difficult to define it don't you think?
Kogan's development work is just about emotion, detail and simplicity.

I don't think his work is bad, but its just not great. Adjaye began his career with a series of residential commissions and his work developed and grew and changed. Pawson and Chipperfield are architects whose work has great emotion, detail, and simplicity but I don't find any of that in Kogans architecture, to me its about repetition and blandness...
"it is more difficult to simplify" ! it was someones quote but i cant remember
who s....and about repetition , I think that everyone got it s "style" and its logical the repetition of some elements (tadao ando , r. meier etc)
mimilapin 06-12-2007, 13:36 finally a lively discussion ! :D not only mimi's sugar ;) OK...

When you look carefully, Kogan (almost) never repeats himself. Indeed he takes simple patterns, like rectangular boxes, but then he plays with it to give it an exciting look, hereby never repeating himself. It looks easy, but it isn't: you should have a lot of inspiration to do that. Pawson is also really beatifull, but Kogan touches my heart as much as Pawson does...

mimilapin 28-03-2008, 22:39 "PONT GUCCI
Extremely elegant is the least one can say about Pont Gucci. A sophisticated structure anchored by very beautiful, very Gucci 18k gold chains and long strands of côtelé vert (corded green), rouge et vert (red and green) fabrics, fulfills its important social role of connecting glamorous malls located on the margins of the most “in” river in São Paulo. Diamond powder spread over the asphalt provoking a dazzling shine. 24-hour security and a fair entrance toll, approximately 20 euros, make this place extremely exclusive. On Indian Day, April 19th, its use will be free of charge in a type of “urban kindness” offered to the less-fortunate, however we do promise a rapid and secure decontamination in order that all will be in the most perfect order the following morning. After all, we know very well about the lack of breeding of the Brazilian people. In a demonstration of respect for the environment, a 20-meter area around the River will be de-polluted, using daily applications of Channel No. 5. The ultimate in Chic!!!"
