This is the Technium Centre in Swansea South Wales & is the flagship Office building for the redevelopment of the docks area.
Architects were Kennedy James Griffiths in Cardiff
Photos were taken July 2004
(yes I said July & you wonder why I want to emigrate? ;))

Photo 7 Internal Main Stairway with some surprise visitors
I've never been inside this building, despite the fact my son works there.
(That's him on the far right)

LOL even the building is shaped curved to where the strong winds are. I would probably want to emigrate either.
Very nice pictures. Thanks!

Is your son the guy from "Friends"?

This is asked quite a lot so I have taken to answering "Yes he is" & then I stand back & enjoy the astonished expression appear on their faces ;)

(BTW that is what Blair asked as well hence they are all laughing)

This is an experimental building in Neath South Wales Originally part of one of the 90's Garden Festivals (Liverpool I think) Re-erected here in Neath
I don't know the original designer
Construction & Glazing panels are timber frame
Intended as energy self sufficient Early Prototype Voltaic cells store energy in batteries & excess fed back into National Grid

External panels & infill curtain wall panels are painted plywood
The Curved Solar Panel faces due South & helps keep the building from overheating

Photo 5 Internal
Curtain Wall is strengthened with curved timber beams on mid section
The fabric is actually a duct for recycling fresh air

When I visited this building earlier this year there was a slight smell of battery acid from the battery store so I wouldn't want to stay or work there for long periods & it would be better sited seperate from the main structure. Apart from that the internal climate was very comfortable
A very Lovely Space & I could live & work happily in this building.

Hey Red, here is the KMZ so everyone can see the building in its environment.

Why not give us some "how to get there" info so I0ll move this to the travel section?

Thanks for this one!

Thanks for the KMZ Primo I'll post info

(I also have a confession to make Padre Primo - I could never get Google Earth to work for me before but this pushed my arm again & I am now truly amazed - Also now I know what you guys rave about - Stunning!!)

Could we do a frapper map of all the places listed - Is this possible?

Cheers & Thanks

Thanks ReD for posting these, but it would be good to have photos that shows us what Swansea actually looks or feels like too. That's the objective of the World Photo Browser
