View Full Version : a litle portuguese help too...
hi all.this is a university work i have to deliver in a month and now i have a first deliver so teachers can see how the work and ideias are runing.in this project i had to adapt (or completly ignore) a warehouse (i think this is how u say it in english...the portuguese word is armazen) of wine in to a small university or school (if we can call it that...) located near parque das nacoes in lisbon (Portugal). i try to adapt the place into that cause i really liked the look of that abandoned warehouse specially the metalic roof structure, so what i did was keeping the 3 main buildings(for offices and so), destroy the wall of this buildings that conects to the warehouses and just keep the roof structure as a giant umbrella...lol.know it sounds...silly but i like it=P. the i put every room a floor up the ground e and everything is cover by the "umbrella" lol except the main yard. i change the strutture around the yard a little bit so its a bit like the continuation of the roof, and marking the enter/exit is the auditorium (auditorio em portugues...) and the greenhouse or garden house (its estufa em portugues lol...).the all building its articulated in a "U"shape forming the yard in the midle.
PS: im really really sorry for my english...lol.anyone that knows portuguese (or english lolol) and the words missing feel free to correct me..

Pilares = Pilars; columns
DACAD, não faças links das imagens... utiliza a consola de upload de imagens...
grava as mesmas no teuo computador, reduz para 700x700pixels, com pelo menos 300dpi de resolução e faz o upload.
OK
DacaD, please don't link images but save them to your pc and upload them with the required proportions and size, thank you!

About your project... the covered warehouses are what for...just covered areas to walk thru...
Still don´t understand interely your project... how are interior spaces... (Auditorium;Library..., etc...)
This project is for what uni year?
and for now thats all (sry for abusing with all the images i post...hope u dont get too bored...but this also gives me some pushpulbar credits..=D).
now i really would enjoy comments and critics since i still have time to change something.and i know the presentation quality its low but its just a study so dont worry much with that, but sugestions to presentationare welcome also. for myself , i prefer more black and whiteand some color , something simple with lines..
i just want also to say that im really amazed with sketchup, im no newbie with sketchup but i did all this in a day of a work!!!including the full modeling and chages that i was doing when i didnt liked the results. and dindt even touch autocrap=P.Photoshop helped too (and a software i have to print to tiff with 300dpi so the print quality its always equal to autocrap=D). if @last can doo sketchup with better 2d tools bye bye autocrap...lol
and i also did this with the new maineteance version of skethcup. good to have old layer bar back (thank god) and skethcup5 its just faster if i work with groups or components. now i turn evrthing into a group a its much much faster. but if i try to do something without being to a group it takes ages (or till i reiniciate..lol) and exploding its not a option now cause that takes even more time.
PS: i know i said id post barragan's house and a volumetric baixa chiado model but i didnt go to univ this week so idont have the cd...=P
sry for that about the images.i didnt know the 700x700 rule..sry
pedro this is for 4 year of univ.the covered its basically to walk trough and the way i found to mark the path and i know the place seems very dark but ilt post some photos of the original and its quite iluminated full covered and with walls.
(brigado pela ajuda pedro mas este ingles ta meio enferrujado...vou repostar as imagens c 700x700 e voltar a postar..ganda trabalhao dp meke n faxo link as imgens?dsc a minha ignorancia neste aspecto mas em kestoes d usar a net pa mexer fazer estas coisas sou uma nodoa...brigado)

Can you tell us more about your project...
What is for...we know there are an auditorium, a greenhouse, 2 librarys, shops, what more...? what is the purpose of the building...?
lol...today its not my day...:P
well pedro the name of the project itself its a litle strange, in portuguese its "Escola de oficios tradicionais" the nearest english translation i can remember its "school of traditional jobs" lol.its supost to have 5 work offices with a smal room each for tools 2 informatic room,2 teorical room,2 tecnologic room,(so i simetricaly put one of each and 2 of each ofice in each leg of the U shape) an auditorium and a green house (its just one but its as tall as 2 floors, and follows the inclination of the roof as the pilars do), one library and a "mediateca" (dont know how to say it in english, and each has 2 floors), the 2 bathrooms are near the stairs in the articulations points of the U shape.the 5th work office its in the part perpendicular to the 2 legs of the Ushape. the old building on the right its where the design and teachers offices are. the building in the midle was the one where the wine was kept essencial and that rectangle int he midle represents the machines and cocrete boxes (cubas) used to store wine (i kept this as a way to keep a conection to the old propose of the building) there were also around suspended paths(corredores) with cubas too, but i changed to ust conection paths and some place where u could do an exposition.the old building from the left its the most important (from norte junior...) and the one that calls more atention so i turn it tothe "official entrance to the school" and in its 2nd floor its located the admnistratives offices.in the zone more south its a partial covered parking lot (one of the many conditions of the project).
My propose was to do something that folows the principles of industrial designs, trying to keep it simple and standartlized. so the module used was the one given by the structure.
So from what I understand the whole ground floor is free. Wouldn't you have too much free space without program? Also I wonder about lighting below the workshops. Wouldn't it be better to make two floors of workshops one on top of the other and leave the rest of the space double height? I think it would define space much better and also help you organize the way the institution works.
The modelling of the original building looks flawless. It's definitely a very portuguese style.
Great work!
a view interior of the cubas (with the cubs in the midle) building...one of the paths continues to the rest of the school.
a view (without the roof) of the school building itself.
u can see the green house and auditorium in from of each other, and in the part more far its the path that conects to the old building
(note:the 1st floor of the library and mediateca wasnt modeled yet.)

I don´t remember the building it self, but I believe is a ArtDeco style building, am I right DACAD? Still is a nice SU modelling... if you done it it took you a lot of time...

Seems a bit insipient the internal layout and far of control the inner spaces.
you'll have to improve,... ;)
have you already submitt this to your teacher? what University, may I ask?
( first job of the year?)
Try moving your internal speces around a bit. Maybe add some curves internally while maintaining your structural system for the roof.
Your diagonal bracing for the coloumns look structurally unsound (too thin). They also cut through the space and make it mostly unusable. If you want to keep them, create a use for them. ( maybe hanging gardens to add another dimension to the main promonade).
good luck....
my initial ideia was based in what i saw and what caghtu my attention when i visit the warehouse.this photo shows a little of the warehouse (not even 1/3...its giant) and one of the biggest issues in this project is amazingly space.not the lack of them bue the fact that there's too much for the things that are asked...(i could do everything in the old buildings).but a it shows this photo theres good light already (even with walls and full roof theres no big buildings around and its near the river) and i really liked that big and covered space and some of the already existence structure.so the ideia was to do something that ironicly dont use much space of the ground leaving that public for everyone could just go there and stay or be a litle (and thats why the only stuff thats in the ground its things that can be for everybody like bar auditrium...)and just the people from school could go up and enter building (thats the original ideia though...)
Cacapis:
thats a not a bad ideia cacapis but i really get a hard time when i try to do that cause always look a litle lost and putting the workshops down goes a litle agains the"twisted logic" i get ofr this work.
as for the portuguese style im not sure thats a good thing...lol.some of my teachers really go nuts if i try to change to much of the original, (and thats not an importatn building) the ideal is really dont touch it at all...lol.
Pedro:
youre right pedro, i started slow on this one but im getting there now.still have much to do (this is to deliver in the first days of january) but i really dont get all the details until the final deliver, and for now this is just a study model for me to have an ideia how things should work and be.(normally i draw a lot then do the first models with the ideas, do the adjustments and with all defined do the final model with all the deatils and stuff).
im afraid of even saying the school (and if u know someone there and go say bad things of me?im doomed...lol:P)(tou no ISCTE e e o primeiro trab do ano,na univ inda ta td meio perdido nas aulas por causa do tratado d bolonha)
nurah:
i really dont want to use curves or many organic shapes here...
youre ideia its great for the diagonals pilars!! i was thinking of doing some midle floors or somethnig if i can make a way to make a gardens and interact with all it would be great.my initial ideia cause i have so much space was to them be another way for me to "play"(my teachers hate when i say this...=P)with this.
thanks for the coments and ideas
thanks for the modeling coments too
it didnt take me much time has i said before im getting really famliar with skethcup, but what really anoys me its that sometimes i forget some tools like the folow me...it spare me of a lot of work in this model and the stupid thing was that i just remember this tool when ive already modeled half of it!!! :bang head
i used skethcup since 3.1 and there wasnt folow me back then and in version 4 there wasnt even a button for it so i always forget it, so the first half was modeled with pushs intersects rotates and deletes... :(
by the way does anyone have any good tip for working with big models (besides buying more ram...lol),for the really really anoying shadow issues (in some positions the shadows get all crazy) and a good ruby script for more selection options and extends and trims that really work?

DACAD, use more groups... turn thing into components...Use layer for things you don't use for modeling, like people, cars, vegetation, DTM...
Treaty of Bolonha - DACAD first of all your UNIV must be complied with EU Architecture Directory and with Ordem dos Arquitectos...right... as far as I know Architecture will be a 6 year course turning into a master degree, instead of the 5 years+1 year curricula practice, but I believe the 1 year of professional practice will reamain...
best of luck...
