The Barcelona Pavilion, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, was the German Pavilion for the 1929 World's Fair in Barcelona. It was an important building in the history of modern architecture, known for its simple form and extravagant materials, such as marble and travertine.

The building stood on a large podium alongside a pool. The structure itself consisted of eight steel posts supporting a flat roof, with curtain glass walling and a handful of partition walls. The overall impression is of perpendicular planes in three dimensions forming a cool, luxurious space.

The Pavilion was demolished at the end of the exhibition, but a copy has since been built on the same site.

I do have a couple of comments...interpretation:I see some things that I thought about and I want to tell you about them in a way that architects feel that they have to. You understand, or you wouldn't be here.

Your bench against the long wall looks too high for sitting. The proportions seem odd to the rest of the building. Very much un-Miesian.

The glass wall in your rendering, directly in the center of the pic is, I think, supposed to be travertine, not glazing. Check the real pic and please correct me if I am wrong.

I don't know if you took the pic of the real building. If so...kick ass eye you have. Either way, the reflective quality of the pool in the foreground adds to the composition of the image and emphasizes the planer quality of the building. The image enhances the important aspects of the building very well. Additionally, the sun angle (in the real pic) allows us to see more of the structure in direct light. This may also aid in the pool's reflective quality.

I mention these few items in the context of a great model that I enjoyed seeing. However, we, as architects, can do more than document a structure when a few simple artistic techniques can further the message that we are trying to convey in the building and in our profession as artists. The rendering semms more documentational that artist. The model and the pic are high quality. I'll look for more of your stuff.

Does anybody have constructive details of the pavilion?

I need details of the roof, the skylight, the pillars and of the union among the frames of the glasses and the wall.

I'm desperate!!!:(:(:(

Thank you!! :not worth

There should be a thread about learning to use the library! And a standard warning not to post lazy requests such as this one.

It wouldn't be necessary.
I've already gone to the library but all the copies of this book are taken and I have not been able to look it.
As I need the information right now, I don't have time of going to the faculty of Barcelona (2 hours of route) and buying it, and maybe the shop is already closed.
It's the reason I've asked for help.

P.D. Sorry for the last lazy request.

As a college professor, I have heard this sad tale many times before. Order the book from Amazon or whatever you have in Spain and have it delivered overnight.

But don't expect others to do your work for you!!!!:poke fun:

I completely understand, but when you were in college could you afford overnight fees? I think it is resourceful, not lazy, to use this forum.

I think it is resourceful, not lazy, to use this forum.

Resourceful and lazy can be easily intertwined and substituted for each other. When someone who has rarely used this forum asks a question, it is easier to assume that they are just wanting someone to help and do the work. It is much easier to be a part of the community first and then ask requests because it is more resourceful than lazy. Don't get me wrong: there are still times where there are exceptions to the rule, but they are usually few and far between.

I dont think he was being lazy, he didnt ask anyone to draw up details for him, he simply asked if anyone had any, then maybe they could maybe share them.
It didnt seem like an outlandish request!

Do they not have libraries in Spain? This sort of information doesn't exist digitally unless you've done the work yourself so it's going to come from a book.

So why can't you go to the library and find a book with details in it? (Usually they keep a copy of it on reserve for projects everyone is working on. Your story sounds pretty fishy.)

It's not very difficult to do.

A pavillon of a country is supposed to reflect culturally that country, so from the design spirit of this pavillon, can you say that it reflects the architectural spirit of Germany, which shows an excellent capacity technically and in terms of creativity!
What I have noticed is that Mies worked with straight lines marvelously poetic...

I've found a pillar section detail.

I've uploaded it here.

If I find more I'll share it with you.

Really our university doesn't think of these details (It seems an excuse but it's the truth, we've already denounced it many times, but...). :bang head

But I won't start to criticize it, many times we're guilty of taking the books without thinking with the other ones.:(

Bye.

I think there are a bundle of other rendering attempts at barc here (somewhere) that do some really great jobs with the finishes and lighting! Could be under the render forums!
