Founded by partners Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture, Asymptote Architecture is a New York based firm whose work has gained professional recognition both in the United States and abroad. Couture and Rashid have brought innovation to their field by challenging the boundaries of their discipline and exploring the potential of new technologies.
The work of Asymptote includes architectural design at all scales: furniture, interior, building and urban design but also extends beyond these into the realms of digital environments and installations.
Current and recent building projects by Asymptote include a 280,000 sq. ft high-tech facility in San Francisco; the award winning Univers Theater, a 30,000 sq. ft. multimedia theater structure constructed in Denmark, a multimedia research facility in Kyoto, Japan, the prize winning pavillion for the Floriade in Amsterdam and the Guggenheim Center for Art and Technology in New York.
Asymptote is also working at the forefront of the design of interactive architectural environments intended for the space of the computer.
The Virtual Trading Floor for the New York Stock Exchange and the Guggenheim Virtual Museum are fully navigable interactive multi-dimensional architectural environments.
Asymptote has received acclaim for several of their art scaled projects, which range from large public works to smaller gallery installations. Asymptote's projects have been widely exhibited and are included in the collections of the several museums.

NYSE Virtual Trading Floor &
NYSE Command Center


The design of the Virtual Trading Floor for the New York Stock Exchange involved the design of an interactive architectural environment intended for the space of the computer. The Virtual Trading Floor was the first business application of an interactive virtual architecture.

BMW Event and Delivery Center

For the recent competition by BMW Asymptote is proposing an Event/ Delivery Centre that architecturally embodies the sophistication and advanced technology of BMW. The building itself is seen as an extension of the corporate identity and progressive design of the products inside.
The interior is a fluid space that creates a dynamic theatrical event of the design, production, and purchasing of BMW products.

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum has commissioned the New York firm Asymptote Architects to design and implement a new Guggenheim Museum in cyberspace. This is the first phase of a three-year initiative to construct an entirely new museum facility. The structure will be an ongoing work in process, with new sections added as older sections are renovated. The project will consist of navigable three-dimensional spatial entities accessible on the Internet as well as real-time interactive components installed at the various Guggenheim locations.

Hydra Pier
Haarlemmermeer
The Netherlands



The Hydra Pier, a municipal pavilion acknowledging and celebrating the fast growing city of Haarlemmermeer, was the winning entry in an International competition.
Haarlemmermeer is located in a region, adjacent to the Amsterdam Schipol airport, that was below sea level for most of the19th Century.
